Geocache at a Little Free Library

Someone on Twitter brought up Geocaching the other day, and I decided that I should give it a try.  Here’s the video footage.

Another event that happened recently was a “Dirty Ninja Mud Run” and all three of my children partook in the event. Here’s the footage of my kids totally tearing it up!

That’s all for now.  Hope you’re having a good summer, just like my family is!

So You Think You Can Dance the Whip and Nae Nae – Watch Me!

There’s an old saying, “Dance like a lot of people are watching, so you can embarrass yourself.”  Pretty wise stuff.  I know.

I live by that credo, so here’s a dance instructional video.

You can thank me later when you know what to do at the next wedding you attend.   You’ll be like, “I know how to do The Whip and the Nae Nae!  Let’s dance!”

Take care,

Shark Week Video Entry – Spiny Dogfish Fishing

I was on vacation the past week in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.  At the same time as we were down there, there were several shark attacks just to the north of us in North Carolina.  I can see why.  At the beach we were at, in Garden City, South Carolina, which is just south of Myrtle Beach, we saw several sharks at the pier.  The sharks are there all the time because of the fisherman.  I’m not talking little baby sharks either.  These were eight foot long bull sharks that troll the waters.  The weird thing is, the swimmers and surfers didn’t even flinch about it.  There were several of them swimming and surfing only 20 meters from where we were seeing sharks!  Crazy people, I tell you.

Anyways, I didn’t go swimming anywhere near the pier.  I did go in the ocean a few times, but only up to my knees.  Apparently, that’s all you have to be in though to get attacked.  I read some of the reports, and it seems none of the people who were bit were in deep water.

I did get up close and personal with one kind of shark called the “spiny dogfish”.  We caught some when we went on a fishing charter.  Watch the video!

It was rough seas, but we all managed to keep our lunch down.  Sorry that there’s no footage of me catching a shark, but I really did.  You gotta believe me!

Promoting O.K. is Great on my Tips4Running YouTube Channel

If you’re a casual follower of this blog, you may not know that I lead a double life.  No, I’m not Batman.  Then again, Batman and I have never been in the same room at the same time.

I’m getting off topic.  What I mean to say is that I have a YouTube channel called Tips4Running where I make videos about tips for running.  My persona on there is “Coach Tief” because I was a collegiate runner, and a track and cross country coach after I graduated from college.  I’ve got a lot of subscribers on YouTube, so I’m using that site to push my book, O.K. is Great, out into the world.  Here’s the quick video promo I made.

Happy Trails,

Coach Tief!

Han Solo, Miss Peregrine, and Scott Sterling – The Sunday Share (67/365)

Harrison Ford, an actor famous for his role as Han Solo in the Star Wars movies, survived an airplane crash this week.  I’m glad he and his son are okay.  Because they are doing well, the Interwebs declared it open season for poking fun at the crash.

I’m sorry, Mr. Ford. I couldn’t help myself.

The book of the week!  For the first time ever, a book trailer convinced me to read the book.

The book, Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children (Miss Peregrine’s Peculiar Children Book 1), is creepy! Just watch the book trailer, and it will give you the chills. I’m three chapters in, and I had a little trouble sleeping last night.

On my lovely journal, the story that garnered the most interest was about when my son, who was one year old at the time, had a diaper blowout in the car seat as the we traveled on Interstate 94.

And, finally, watch this epic soccer shoot out.  It’s okay to laugh about it.  Scott Sterling survived.

That’s all.  I hope you liked The Sunday Share, and remember to share it too.  Sharing is caring!

This is how Story Time with David Tiefenthaler Got Started

This is how I got the idea for writing my book.

WATCH!

I told this story to my middle school students, and they loved it.  I figured, I could turn this into a video, and I did.  I actually made several stories and turned them into videos and posted them on YouTube.  I still have a YouTube channel, called “tiefsa”, but making videos like the one above was extremely time consuming.  It was more fun writing the story.

Then I figured, why not use the story of being the new kid at a school and then write a fictional tale about it.

I hope to be able to share that story with you soon…

The Four Most Beautiful Words in the English Language

It’s time to dust off the tools of ignorance

Get out your athletic support

Grab the Delaware River mud

and the rosin bag, ole sport

The South paws, the hurlers, the closers,

and throwers of every sort,

the starters, side-winders, flame-throwers,

and relievers to hold the fort

Plus squatters, and backstops are coming

boarding planes at the airport

They’re all heading to Arizona or Florida,

but not to a resort

“Hope springs eternal in the dead of winter,”

my father did retort.

“The four greatest words in the English language,

pitchers and catchers report.”

Rainbow Loom College Plan

My wife and I are both teachers.  Since we value education, we think that all three of our children should go to college and get a degree.

The downside for my wife and I is we are teachers who don’t earn a ton of money.  Our dream of three children graduating college means we have to save a boatload of money for them.  Currently in our 529 college plan, we have around zero dollars saved up for the three children.

My parents paid for my college education.  My wife earned a scholarship and also received help from her grandfather when paying for her education.  I feel that we should do the same, but according to inflation and the escalating prices of a college education, it will cost us about four million dollars to pay for all three of them.  I might be a bit low with that estimate.

Enter the RAINBOW LOOM

On YouTube, I have posted a bunch of running instructional videos.  They make me a little money each month.  One day, my oldest son, Bob the Builder, said he wanted to do a Rainbow Loom instructional video.  My son watches YouTube Rainbow Loom videos and learns how to make bracelets, so he wanted to post his own creations.  I filmed it for him, and we posted a video.  Bob the Builder did an excellent job explaining how to make a bracelet, and then my daughter, The Flower Child, said she wanted to do one too.  She made a bracelet, and I filmed for her.

BAM!  A cottage industry is born.  Now we just have to wait for the money to pile up.  I checked the stats yesterday for our YouTube channel and we actually made some money.

“Hey kids,” I announced.  “We made 67 cents!”

The Flower Child screamed, “We’re rich!”

Bob the Builder replied, “He said 67 cents, not dollars.”

Wish us luck!  Here is the first video we did.

This video is the one my daughter made.

We only have to make about $3,999,999.33 more and they’ll be set for college.

How to Make an Antiviral Video

Over this past summer, I got a little squirrelly and made a few videos with my spare time.  I should be writing, but I’m in a holding pattern with my book.  I have half of the sequel written, but I don’t want to get too far into the second because an editor might suggest major changes to the first book that would affect the content of the second book.

The particular video I’m sharing here is my attempt at making something humorous.  My wive absolutely loathes this video.  Almost every serious YouTuber wants to hit it big with a viral video, so I made a how to video on how to do the opposite and make an Antiviral Video.

I’m a realistic individual, so I know that I don’t have much of a chance to create a viral video.  My cat doesn’t do very many exciting things, nor do I have any amazing talents.  I combined these two lackluster things, my lazy cat, and myself, and created a visual masterpiece.  Enjoy…

P.S. I thought the start was the best.  I was rubbing hand sanitizer on my hands and then on the cat’s paws.  I didn’t really put any on the cat.
